Understanding Your Janam Kundali: A Beginner's Guide to Vedic Birth Charts
Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

The janam kundali is the foundation of Vedic astrology. Here is how to read its houses, planets and ascendant — and what a consultation with our acharyas actually covers.

Understanding Your Janam Kundali: A Beginner's Guide

The janam kundali — your Vedic birth chart — is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place of your birth. For over two decades, Love With Astrology has helped people across India and overseas read that map with clarity. This guide covers the basics.

The twelve houses

A kundali is divided into twelve bhavas (houses), each governing a part of life: self, wealth, siblings, home, children, health, marriage, longevity, fortune, career, gains and liberation. Which planets sit in which houses — and which signs those houses fall in — shapes the reading.

The ascendant (lagna)

The sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth is your lagna, the anchor of the whole chart. Two people born on the same day can have completely different kundalis because the lagna changes roughly every two hours. This is why accurate birth time matters so much in Vedic astrology.

The nine grahas

Vedic astrology works with nine grahas: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu. Each has its own nature, friendships and enmities, and each rules particular signs. Their placement, strength and aspects tell the story.

What a consultation covers

When you consult with Acharya Satish Awasthi ji or our panel of astrologers, the reading typically moves through:

  • Dasha analysis — which planetary period you are currently living through, and what it emphasises
  • Career and finance — the tenth, second and eleventh houses
  • Marriage and relationships — the seventh house and Venus/Jupiter significations
  • Health indications — the sixth house and the ascendant lord
  • Remedies — practical, traditional upay such as mantra, charity, gemstones or ritual, always explained plainly

Synergy of ancient and modern

Love With Astrology pursues research in the Vedic sciences with the aim of synergising the knowledge embedded in ancient traditions with modern science. A kundali is not a verdict — it is a diagnostic map, and the remedy is always in your hands.
